Wow, I'm done! I enjoyed the web 2.0 challenge for the most part. I really did learn a lot. I think my personal favorite Thing is #11. I love lists and I really can see a number of applications for this. I will keep lists of books I want to read and lists of books I've read and enjoyed. I'll also keep lists for work, of books for programs.
If I had to pick a "least favorite," I would choose Thing #14. I just didn't like using Technorati as much as the other sites. I found a lot of the information and tech speak confusing.
As for what can benefit the library, I thing Wikis would be great for sharing and updating information for committees and working on materials for programs. I also think social bookmarking, like del.icio.us, is perfect for handling unwieldy favorites lists. I'm glad I had this opportunity. It prodded me into exploring in more depth a variety of tools like Listen NJ and NetLibrary. I found a whole bunch of blogs relating to books and libraries that I didn't know about before the challenge.
I leave the challenge having learned that I have a lot to learn!
My thanks go to the Web Challenge Committee.

Listen NJ was very simple to use. I easily downloaded The Amazing Bone by William Steig onto my home pc and enjoyed listening to it. I like the fact that I don't have to create any kind of account here, only type in my barcode. I anticipate I'll use it more once I get my new Mp3 player! I've also recommended it to my husband and children.

I love being able to find live concerts, since I never get out of the house anymore. Enjoy my new favorites, Glen Hansard and Markita Irglova of the film "Once", touring as Swell Season. Here they are live in concert from Washington, DC on 7/26/07. I found them on NPR's "All Songs Considered."

Web 2.0 awards
I've been using Pandora for a long time now and have found it really useful for discovering new artists. I also really had a good time browsing yelp.com. My family often travels to the Charleston, SC area, and I'm always looking for great restaurants and activities for that area. I liked being able to focus on reviewers who live locally to get their recommendations. Lots of great info and a really user-friendly format. One thing I can't get used to thought, is the reviewers who feel it's necessary to use profanity in their postings. I'm not prudish when it comes to language, but I just dont' get it...I guess it's a generational thing.

I think I'll find plenty of uses for Google Docs. I can use it to keep running lists of titles I've used for children's programs, which I often need to access from different computers. I can see it used to work on drafts of handouts for computer classes and other training that is conducted by more than one staffer. I'm glad I can also suggest it to my daughter for her classwork, since she's frustrated by the software we have on our home computer (no PowerPoint).
